Cindy Falconi's Pledge Page for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Team in Training

My mission is to raise $2800 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and also to complete my first full marathon run.
Wow, that's right…I’m going to run my first marathon! I've had a change of plans and I'm no longer running the Dublin marathon. Instead I'm staying a little closer to home and running in the LaSalle Banks Chicago Marathon on October 13th, 2002, and I’m still doing it for a charitable cause, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The mission and goals of this society are listed below (there is also a web link if you click on 'links' on the upper left of the screen.)

The way this marathon works is I have to raise $2800 in the Society’s name and then they pay for my training (see the Team in Training information below and the web link also in the 'link' section)and my hotel for the run. I can't do it without your support. So far I've raised about $1500 and it's growing every day, but there's still a ways to go. Please donate whatever you can. Large and small donations all add up! I've received donations as large as $500 and as small as $5. Everything is really appreciated!

I'm so happy to do my part, running the marathon to help support this cause and to inspire people like you to donate. If you would like to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society with a donation, I/they would really appreciate it!! Please see the "donate" page for more information.

I am training for and participating in the marathon in honor of Angelique Wolfrum. Angelique is 21 years old and was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Disease in the spring of 1999 and is currently in remission. I would like to run not only for my honored hero, but for your honored heroes too. Please include with your donation the name of the person or people you would like me to run in honor of or in the memory of. It doesn't matter what type of illness they have battled. If they are important to you, they are important to me. I will be wearing a ribbon for each honored hero the day of the marathon. And in the meantime while I'm out in the rain or the humidity plodding along to get those miles in, it will help me to stay focused on the real reason behind doing the marathon which is to raise money for research and patient care!

About the Charitable Cause:
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is a national voluntary health agency dedicated to curing leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improving the quality of life of patients and their families.

The Society was established in 1949 as the de Villiers Foundation. In 2000, the Society changed its name from The Leukemia Society of America to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to emphasize its commitment to fighting all blood-related cancers.

Mission and Goals
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. More than 76 percent of our expenditures is directed to research and patient services. The Society has dedicated itself to being one of the top-rated voluntary health agencies in terms of dollars that directly fund our mission.

Strategic Goals:
Research - Accelerate the acquisition and application of scientific understanding, to advance the treatment, diagnosis, or prevention of leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's lymphoma and myeloma.

Patient Services - Reach all patients at the time of diagnosis and make a significant difference in the lives of all who choose to receive the Society's services.

Advocacy - Increase influence with private and public organizations to achieve the Society's strategic outcomes.

Revenue Generation - Maximize the revenue we raise in the near term while, at the same time, developing capabilities for revenue growth that extend over a longer time period.

Public Awareness - Increase awareness of the Society among the general public and core constituents in order to increase support for our mission and reach more people with the services we provide.

Human Resources - Become the non-profit agency of choice for staff and volunteers.

It should be noted that this Society supports research at several cancer centers in Michigan, including U of M, Children’s Hospital, the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute and Wayne State. More info is available at:

About the Team in Training fund raising events:
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training® (TNT) is the world's largest endurance sports training program. TNT provides me with the coaching, training and even the travel opportunities to make my athletic goals (my 1st marathon!) a reality. What's the deal? In exchange for the training and support, I try to raise money toward a cure for leukemia, one of the leading disease killers of children; lymphoma, the leading disease killer of men and women under 35; and other blood-related cancers. More information on how this works, and details of my event are included at the following site:
